Along Old Route 66, Tucamcari, New Mexico
February 27, 2008 “31 Chevrolet Apache“
I had hearings today in Tucamcari, New Mexico. Tucamcari is in far eastern New Mexico (nearly to the Texas border) along I40. Before the interstate rolled a couple of miles south of the town, Route 66 ran through downtown Tucamcari. Now the old downtown Tucamcari appears nearly abandoned in favor of the chain hotels and fast food joints along the interstate.
During my lunch hour, I took this photograph along the old Route 66. This particular shop appears to be a rare thriving business in the old downtown. Nevertheless, with the 1959 31 Chevrolet Apache parked in front of Zeke’s Kustom Body shop, I couldn’t help but imagine this area in the late 1950’s, with people flooding the downtown on their way to California. With that vision in mind, I developed this image using selective desaturation and underexposure to give this photograph an old time feel. Do you like the old time look, or did I overdo it?

This looks like a postcard! Good work Bri!
Cool picture Brian. It looks like a step back in time. Might even make a nice gift for someone nicknamed Zeke! I love the truck and very much enjoy that it’s still out there & running today.
I think you really captured the essence of the old Rte 66. Great job!
Brian,
I absolutely love this image!! This optimizes old Route 66.
The desaturation was perfect. It looks like an old time calender picture. Dreaming of days gone by.
